9 Jan 2010. My 1st post for 2010.
Arrival of Rowan had been a real big start to this new yr. Didn't expect him to come out on 4 Jan as my EDD was 20 Jan. Was expecting him to arrive nxt wk and that i can enjoy this whole wk.
Recalling hw it started.
4 Jan.
Awoke by stomach-ache @ ard 6am. Did suspect that it might be labor pain but thought it might be a false alarm. Hence, continued to slp but bearing some pain every half an hr until i told my lao gong at ard 8 plus (luckily he was on leave that day). He said that to call up the gynae once the clinic opens. Hence, i continued to slp till 9 plus and when he called up, the clinic asst advised me to go down for a chk.
Reached the clinic at 10 plus. Did the CTG scan and doc informed me that i'm in labor and i can go down to the hospital. I was v nt mentally prepared and feeling scared. Luckily i brought along my hospital bag and we went to the hospital straight.
Think we reached there at 12 plus and i didn't have any food at all except for a small 'lao po bin' in the morning. Was so hungry. The nurse brought me in to the delivery ward where i changed, clear my bowels and laid on the bed with the machine strapped onto my stomach. Had my epidural shot (not really painful but can feel muscle pull while he was injecting and now then i noe that the needle was really long) and was on drip @ 1 plus. I can only feel hunger as the epidural had numbed my bottom half. I could still read magz and watch tv while my lao gong went for his lunch and went hm to bring some of my stuffs over.
The real pain started when my water bag burst at ard 6pm. By then, my epidural was slowly wearing off and i did not want to take a 2nd dosage as i thought that Rowan will be out soon since the dilution was happening at a fast rate (from 1cm to 6cm within 1 hr plus). BUT, i was wrong!!! At the pt the dilution reaches 9cm, i sort of got stuck down there and the contraction was happening every 30 seconds. I was grabbing on to my lao gong's t-shirt everytime i felt the pain and when the 'pushing' started as assisted by the nurse, i was gg crazy. Not to scare anyone but then it was real painful for me as i was in tears when Rowan hasn't come out after ard 1 hr of 'pushing' and the nurse said that a bit of the head was coming out but everytime when i released my breath, his head will go bk in which made me so so demoralized. Apart from the pain, i must really thk my lao gong for standing by me and guiding me to breathe in & out :) cos he also can't do anything. keke.
After the hr of 'pushing', my energy was real real low and hence, the nurse called in my gynae to see what he can do. The doc opted to use forceps to get my bb out. I'd used the most energy & strength for the final few pushes and anyway i also couldn't bother abt what's happening ard me or rather what's the doc doing.
Finally, the bb was out @ 2101 hrs. The whole ward seems in a chaos as i can only see a lot of nurses and they shouting across the rm on bb's weight, length etc. I asked my lao gong to go and see the bb as he was being tagged and placed under the warmer while my gynae did the stitching etc. for me. By then, i was v shagged and can't be bother abt the pain..
Me and bb was pushed out of the delivery ward at ard 10 plus. Bb was pushed by my lao gong to the nursery for wash-up while i was pushed to the 2-bedded ward. I laid on the bed, physically and mentally tired but juz couldn't fall asleep while my lao gong sat beside msging to share the joy with relatives & frenz. The night seemed extremely long as i was in pain bcos of the stitching..
The following day was to learn hw to breastfeed Rowan, getting down from bed and with colleagues, family and frenz coming to visit me. Thks for all the gifts and wishes :)
Was discharged on 6 Jan and i'm nw @ my mum's hse for confinement. Today is the 4th day i'm looking after Rowan with my mum's help. Hopefully, i'll get use to it soon :)
Shall upload bb Rowan's photos soon.
